Location
Kanneliya Forest Reserve is situated in the Galle District of the Southern Province, approximately 125 km from Colombo. It is one of the largest forest reserves with a high biodiversity in Sri Lanka.
Waterfalls
Within the forest, numerous streams add life to the vegetation. Although deforestation has affected them, these streams create several beautiful cascades. The forest receives heavy rainfall from May to July and again in October and November, making these months an ideal time to view the waterfalls. The Anagimale Falls, which is the closest waterfall to the entrance of the reserve, lies just 2 km away, while further inside the forest, visitors can enjoy the beautiful Narangas Ella
Bio-Diversity
Kanneliya is also rich in biodiversity, with 301 species of plants, 133 species of animals, and 59 species of birds recorded within the reserve.
Hiking
The best time for hiking is when the water levels of the streams are low, from March to April and from August to September, making these the most suitable months to explore the breathtaking natural beauty of Kanneliya.
